Why I Rock at Momhood
Here are a few small things I do that make me a better mom.
1. I laugh… A LOT!! At myself, my son, the dog, the irony of life. I just laugh at it all. Some days I just give in to the day and think to myself “I can’t believe that for better or worse this is my life.” Everything will work out in the end, and I may as well enjoy the ride.
2. I play with my son on his level. I roll around in the grass, build forts, and army crawl on a regular basis. At least once a day my name is Leonardo (the blue ninja turtle) and/or Captain Mommy. And you know what, I love it. I wouldn’t trade our playtime for anything in the world. Plus, it’s helped my imagination for one and my mobility (along with some yoga ) for two.
3. I focus on quality, not quantity. I try to make the most out of each day and our time together. Sometimes this means we limit projects, but in the end, we are better able to enjoy the activities we choose because we’re not rushed. It also helps my son decide what’s important to him and he’s learning to prioritize.
4. I take time for myself. I know I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I’m Mommy 23 hours a day, so I take one hour to be Cheri. It’s so important as a parent single or not to take time for yourself, so you don’t lose your identity. Although you are Mom, you are also you, and you need that time to find and be you. It also helps me from losing my shit from time to time, plus I’m more emotionally available. In the end taking a few minutes helps me clear my head and be a better parent.
What do you ladies do to ROCK at MOMHOOD? And do you have “me” time?
